I have always thought that Volvo created the S60 to compete with Mercedes Benz E class and BMW 5 series worldwide. Apparently, the real market segment that the Previouly official cars for Indonesian goverment officials is the one occupied by the smaller C class, BMW 3 series and to some extend the Audi A4.
Somebody in America recently saw the redesigned S60 on the road, and took a shot at it. The new car seems to be heavily influenced by the S60 coupe concept car that was displayed at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show and Shanghai. As Volvo officials explained in public, the production version wouldn't be out until mid-2010. Though Ford is still looking for a buyer for Volvo, there will be no delay in the lauching of the new S60.
As seen from the spy shots, the upcoming Volvo S60 will be about the same size as the present one. A wagon edition should be added soon right after the sedan. Engines wise, the new mid sedan of Volvo should come with a five cylinder as the based model and a 3.2-liter six as in the XC60, also a 3.0-liter T6. The cars will come in both All-wheel drive and front-wheel drive. No price ideas have been given by Volvo officials so far.
