Priced slightly more expensive than the entry level Lexus IS350 compact sedan, and right below the best selling ES350, the HS250h compact luxury hybrid sedan is the newest member in Lexus's family tree. The only different is that the HS sedans are only available in Hybrid and no gasoline edition. Selling price in the US is slightly below US$ 40,000.
Do not assume that because it is a hybrid, the car is sloppy. The HS250h can do 0 to 60 in about 8 seconds, and with combined gas consumption of about 35 miles per gallon, which will please President Obama. The new Lexus HS has the same 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine found in Camry's Hybrid edition (which include a battery-powered electric motor) that produces about 180hp. Some say that the HS250h is based on both the Prius and the Toyota Aventis from Europe.
To maximize both acceleration and fuel efficiency, the HS250h sedan can be operated in Economy,Power or EV mood(when charged and slower than 20 mph). Also, instead of touch screen, the new sedan comes with a Mouse-liked Remote Touch navigation system (also found in the RX350), to control almost everything from audio to climate controls.
Safety wise, besides airbags (everywhere), ABS, traction control, antiskid system, front and rear cameras for parking, the new Lexus sedan also come with the Lane Departing Warning System that helps to keep driver alert while driving. Safety Connect too is available in the HS sedan, to further ensure safety and security of owners/drivers while on the road during any kind of emergency situations. It can also assist to trace location of the vehicle should it be stolen.
